Simon Morell.

moggi press

Polish-born and Yorkshire-bred, Simon Morell is both hard-working and tight. He is quickly becoming one of the most talked-about DJs on this page and I once saw him dissect a mouse with only his teeth and a white label of John Lennon's "working class hero".

Through his residency at DDD, which he co-promotes, Simon has played alongside some of the longest names in the business and it is a testament to both his modesty and his self-belief that though there was usually very little room left for his own billing he neither cried nor asked any of them to shorten their names. Simon's forte is in being able to perfectly judge the pitch of a night then bend it to his own will taking it to profoundly unexpected and uplifting places and it is this unerring ability which has seen him secure the patronage of the likes of Ralph Lawson, Loco Dice, Alex Under and Andrew Weatherall.

With Simon at the helm as both resident DJ and co-promoter, DDD is fast becoming one of the most credible and innovative breakthrough nights in the UK and it is a measure of it's success that this year see's DDD enter it's 7th year, no mean feet in these Credit Crunching times!

Away from his beloved decks Simon is a gibbering wreck and therefore hast of times to be sent out on location to play some of the best venues round the country and further afield (lest he eats his own slippers). To this end 2008 saw him smash the decks at the Garden Festival Croatia, Mulletover & Eastern Electrics warehouse parties in London, visit Ibiza one to many times and of course his beloved residency at DDD.

2009 promises to be just as big withgigs penciled at Trml Birmingham, Circo Loco and his return to the Garden Festival in Croatia. We will also see Simon step into production with his first release on his new label p e o p l e l i k e u s. Watch this space.
